Team Finzel - Smith
Brian Finzel has been a Science teacher at JPII for 20 years. He is married with two girls, ages 9 and 6. He is known for being a fanatic Falcon volleyball fan that keeps stats, slams his clipboard when things don’t go well, and goes crazy in excitement when things do go well. He has been the faculty volleyball sponsor for the last 16 years. He is also an avid amateur botanist and world-class wildflower photographer. He is currently one of 3 co-authors working on an ongoing Flora of Northern Alabama, a series of online publications. He also discovered a new species of plant in Marshall county this past April, and it will be named Finzel’s Ginger!
Margarete Finzel Smith
Margarete Finzel Smith is the senior Theology teacher at JPII and the parent of Clayton Smith, junior at JPII. She leads Liturgy Alive, the student group who sets up for Mass, serves for Mass, and regularly cleans the Chapel. She also leads the trip to D.C. for the annual March for Life. Margarete’s three children (two still to come to JPII) and husband of 19 years are proudly supporting her from a distance – far enough away so as not to get embarrassed by this dance. Margarete’s only regret is that, while dancing with her big brother, their sister is not here to laugh alongside the crowd.
